To work in Australia as a Nurse, you need to have:
1. Valid visa with work rights.
2. Valid registration with the Australian Nursing Board (AHPRA).
Enrolled nurses work across a variety of practice areas including acute hospitals, sub-acute and rehabilitation services, residential aged care and community settings such as community health clinics, community mental health and general practice clinics.
Emergency departments, perioperative, mental health, palliative care, mother and baby care are just a few of the practice areas where enrolled nurses work.
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) approves all courses leading to national registration as a nurse or midwife. The course accreditation standards approved by the NMBA require that courses for enrolled nurse registration are from the National Health Training Package.
An enrolled nurse is required to complete a diploma qualification to enter the workforce.
A list of accredited programs is available from the NMBA website.
Enrolled nurses can also upgrade their skills and qualifications by completing single units or clusters of units from the diploma and the advanced diploma qualifications in different areas of practice such as acute care, palliative care and mental health.
Entrance requirements vary between providers and prospective students may be required to satisfy the pre-course requirements including: VCE (Year 12) and a pass in Year 10 mathematics; Vocational Education Training ASSESS literacy and numeracy testing (for mature aged students); and a criminal history check (prior to commencing clinical placement).
Many countries including USA, UK, Ireland, Australia & Canada are facing a shortage of nursing professionals. There are simply more positions than there are qualified nurses to fill them.
With aging populations and the rise in chronic diseases, health systems everywhere are under strain.
Healthcare facilities have been turning to international nurses for decades. International nurses do not take jobs away from domestic nurses; they simply supplement your current staff and provide care and comfort to your patients.
If your facility is considering international recruitment, you will come across two very different models:
Once the international nurse arrives at your facility, he/she becomes your permanent employee and receives the same salary and benefits as your regular nursing staff.
The international nurse is employed by a staffing agency that contracts their services to your facility. Agencies usually charge hefty fees which can increase your staffing expenditure substantially.
At JNJ International, we believe your nurse staffing crisis can be solved by placing permanent, international nurses at your facility. We believe these direct-hire nurses can deliver more consistent quality of care for your patients and reduce your overall spend on recruitment.
JNJ International works closely with clients to coordinate the arrival of their international nurses.
We arrange flights, airport pickup, temporary housing, transportation, setting up a bank accounts and other essential tasks.
We make sure every nurse settles in successfully into their new job and community.
International nurse recruitment solves the nursing supply and demand issues that exist domestically.
Permanent, international nurses can provide stability to your nursing workforce that results in greater continuity of care, optimal patient outcomes and higher levels of patient satisfaction.
International nurses can also reduce your facility’s dependence on expensive contingent staff.
